Silver Crafts, Traditional Architecture, Pozole, and the Birthplace of the Xmas Flower

What is Taxco?

Tasco – also known as the “City of Silver” – is a destination frequently featured in travel guides. More accurately, it should be referred to as the “Town of Silver Crafts,” as the silver mines have been on strike for over 20 years. Located in the mountainous region of Guerrero state, Tasco boasts narrow streets where large buses cannot pass. This charming town is bustling with vintage Beetles that confidently navigate the narrow and steep alleys.

In the heart of the town, you’ll find impressive silver workshops, surrounded by smaller artisan studios. Venturing further, on Saturdays, the streets are lined with open-air silver stalls. As the day turns to night, Tasco transforms into a romantic town, perfect for enjoying wine with your loved one on a terrace.

Tasco is also the original home of the Christmas red flower, the Poinsettia, known as “Nochebuena” in Mexico and “Cuetlaxochitl” in the Nahuatl language.

Don’t miss the opportunity to savor the famous Pozole, a traditional dish of Guerrero!

Cacahuamilpa Enormous Stalactite Cave

Xochicalco Archaeological Site

Thriving from around 650 AD during the decline of Teotihuacan and flourishing until approximately 900 AD during the turbulent Epiclassic period. The presence of local tribes, including the Maya, shares similarities with Teotihuacan’s distinct characteristics.
